Dr. Prashna Mistry grew up in Corona, California and is now settled in Orange County to be closer to her friends and family. She spends her free time experimenting in the kitchen with new recipes or spending time outdoors either playing pickleball and hiking.
Where did Dr. Mistry complete her education?
Dr. Mistry earned her optometry degree at Marshall B. Ketchum University in Fullerton and completed her residency in Vision Therapy Rehabilitation and Pediatric Optometry at the Pacific University College of Optometry in Forest Grove, Oregon. She quickly gained experience in managing a variety of complex cases – from providing critical care to US veterans at the VA Hospital in Vancouver, Washington suffering from traumatic brain injuries to working with the Lions Club to provide low vision and functional vision examinations for children with cortical vision impairment. Dr. Mistry enhanced her skills in vision therapy at the Pacific EyeClinic in Downtown Portland by providing treatment for patients with paralyzed eye muscles, lazy eye and learning disorders. She spent an extensive time working with children and adults with disabilities who require specialized testing outside of normal eye exams. But Dr. Mistry’s true passion remained in identifying and correcting visual disorders that contributed to learning issues in classroom to help students reach their full potential.
When did Dr. Mistry join Serve the People?
She joined our team in 2022 and has played an integral role in developing and shaping our mobile vision services and pediatric eye care. Since joining, Dr. Mistry has introduced many specialty services to our practice including myopia control, amblyopia management, and binocular vision evaluations. In 2024, she launched STP’s vision therapy clinic – the first of its kind at any community health center!
Why should Dr. Mistry be your child’s optometrist?
Dr. Mistry’s compassion and expertise create a safe and comfortable space for all her patients. She is skilled in seeing kids of different ages and abilities – including children with learning disorders, developmental delays, autism, and ADHD. Using the latest research and available treatments, Dr. Mistry also helps slow down the progression of kids needing stronger and stronger glasses every year using state of the art myopia control treatments. Dr. Mistry helps Serve the People’s pediatric patients achieve academic success by helping children use their eyes more effectively in the classroom with specialized vision therapy programs tailored to the needs of each student. But above all, her true passion is managing amblyopia, a condition where an eye fails to develop properly which causes a “lazy eye.” Amblyopia can have a lasting impact on a child’s development, long term job prospects, and a child’s self-esteem, which is why she is so motivated to help all children most in need.
Dr. Mistry feels communication with parents is essential for any successful outcome and makes educating parents a priority in all of her visits. She is proficient in Spanish for families who speak multiple languages in their homes. Dr. Mistry understands the fundamental role that vision plays in a child’s ability to learn and achieve success in school, and she brings this passion into every day of patient care.
