Our History

Serve the People began as a ministry and vision to feed the hungry, poor, needy, and homeless of Santa Ana, California. The founder, through experiences gathered as a volunteer in other ministries, brought together a small group of people to fulfill this mission.

In early 2008, we began packing bags of food and providing them to those in need in our parking lot in Santa Ana. Flyers were passed out to nearby residents as the first 50 grocery bags were distributed. Our mission to feed our community continued every first and third Saturday of each month, including delivering food to the homeless population. As the word about our efforts continued to spread, we purchased and delivered pallets of food and began packing bags during distribution events. Tents, tables, an 18-foot-long bed truck, forklift, and pallets were purchased to facilitate the distribution.

After realizing our community's other needs, such as clothing, shoes, diapers, baby food, school supplies, and toiletries, we began souring and providing these items during distributions.

In 2009, the demand grew and two nearby warehouses were rented. Soon after, on June 9, 2009, we obtained our 501(c)3, non-profit status. This allowed us to open our free medical clinic, operating two days a week providing general medical care for families.

By 2010, a third warehouse was added and a Legal Aid Clinic was established to continue serving the people of our community. In 2012, Serve the People Community Health Center began operations.

Today, we proudly provide our community with compassionate and comprehensive medical, dental, vision, and behavioral health services to our patients and community. Our food pantry efforts still continue each first and third Saturday of the month, feeding thousands of families each year.

Our Promise

To provide health care services to people who struggle to find a doctor, dentist, optometrist, or a counselor for care. To work with our community partners to provide any services we are unable to provide ourselves. To work hard to make sure all those in need get what they need, and provide up to 90% discounts for uninsured people who cannot afford to pay for services.
